Skyhawks win Region IV Championship for Cross Country

The Sauk Valley Skyhawks cross country teams competed in the NJCAA Region IV Championships held on the campus of the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois on Saturday, October 27th.  The Skyhawk women's squad came away with the team title, advancing to the NJCAA National Championships.  On the men's side, freshman Ian Hussung punched his ticket the National Meet as well. Head Coach Nick Hartz was named as Region IV Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Hussung led the men's team with his 9th place finish to qualify for the NJCAA National Meet in Garden City, Kansas. Freshmen Jacob Heller finished in 27th place and Sophomore Boston Rodriguez finished in 34th place.
The women were led by Freshmen Haley Weidner who finished in 3rd place. She was soon followed by Sophomore Mekenzie Harden in 5th place. Sophomore Mayra Nava-Moyotl (8th place) and Freshmen Nataleigh Nugent (12th place) rounded out the All-Region selections with their top 15 finishes. Sophomore Maegan McCue (16th) and Katy Anderson (29th) ran fantastic races for the Skyhawks. The Region IV champs now head to Garden City, Kansas for the national meet to be held on November 10th.
